    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

@ ohsam:

I think we're gonna make the seat out of wood. I've seen some really nice tail and seat sections made out of finishing ply and expandable foam overlaid w fiberglass. Lucky for me I have all the wood working tools i need at my disposal.

Wicked cool. Love the imagination and creativity on that beast. Would love to see that thing fly down the quarter mile haha.

The driving was unreal. We were in a Magna rally version vehicle, was a small track but they really let you give it to it in the car.
We got some HD videos of the experience, so I'll put em up soon!

Would def do it again!!

Nah not yet, I've actually pulled my carbs apart pete, as I was having hanging idle issues, so they are soaking now in parts wash, and waiting for my rebuild kit to arrive (should be here tuesday or weds), then Ill put it all back and the seat will be ready by then!

Nah I called a few places they had none. Yamaha dealer said would take a few days to come in. So I went to bursons and bought 'parts cleaner' aka Carb wash 20 liters! Will see how it works.

20 litres!!?? What else are you gonna clean? Haha just kiddin... glad you found something :)

Is it supposed to be good for old gunked up carbs tho? Most stuff I found was just to weak and pathetic to do a good job and you need the real caustic bad-for-you stuff to do it right...
 
...boil in distilled water with lemon juice... really works for me.... just sayin. ;)

I'm sure i'll find a purpose for it somewhere else, always more things that need a cleanin!
Its spose to be really good for carbs and gummed up gunk. I think alot of places use it in the ultrasonic cleaners. Speaking of, I was looking at buying one (a small one) and do one carb body at a time. It only takes a good 5-10 mins in the ultrasonic. Watched some youtube vids on it. Looks the part.

Hey Hoosier,
I did lots of reading with the whole lemon juice thing. I noticed that the carb bodies go chalky afterwards and lots of ppl complained about it.
Not sure if the distilled water helps. Did you find this happend with yours?

The ultrasonic would be good actually, but doing carb parts you'd need a quality one I think rather than the plastic ones I've seen that are cheap...
 
Ok. Finally time to update this thing.

I've been working on various parts of the bike over the last month (yes its been a month since I updated!)
But mainly spent all my time on the carbs.

Rebuilt my carbs and been spending all my time tuning the bike for right size jets, right needle position, mixtures, vacum etc etc etc.

anyway seems all done now (other than being a little hard to start when cold -- takes a few tries but it eventually cranks over...want to get that fixed up)
But the bike runs fine, probably a bit rich so I'll look into that but it rides beautifully and Im quite happy with it all.

Today I worked on the seat.
I had always wanted a seat like my couch at home but was scared to do it.
After much research, I found what I wanted to do, is called Tufting...

This is how it started.

If I had my time to do it over i'd do it a bit different (as with everything). But I have plenty of spare material to make 3-4 more of these seats.

The horseshoe had to be cut out coz i have hump in my seat base.
There was no way around that. Not sure why its there and why its required but it sure did make stapling the material down hard.
Anyway, overall i think it came out ok. Thoughts?

Basically what you do is mark out on ur foam where you want the buttons,
Drill the holes (fairly large), drill tiny holes in the wooden pan.
Get some fishing wire, and a washer. thread the button through and pull the wire out on the timber side.
Use the washer to do a funky knot to tie it down.
Thats pretty much it.

Nice work again, got any pics of the seat pan on the bike? I bet it looks great with the red frame.

What wood did you use? Just wondering if it's going to swell if it gets wet...
 
I believe the hump is there for tire clearance at full compression. I like the seat, very kingly. Curious how its going to look on the bike though, might be a bit out of place with the stripped down cafe.
 
Thanks guys, will put some pics up tonight of it on the bike.

The wood is mdf but it has a coat of marine paint on it so its pretty waterproof (i hope!) if not I will be making a new seat haha.
