just wondering if a 17x 3.50 will fit in set of forks for a 1150??

Yes thats what i used to mount my busa wheel to a GS1100. Go to the gallery 81 Gs1100 Larry Taylor

What i used was the triple clamps and axle from a 1150 the forks were 82 GS1100

hey

hey

Hey larry i have talked to you in the past about your bike!! You sent me a bunch of pictures. I talked to you about your seat!! i am still interested in sending to you and have your guy do it!!!!

not only will the wheel fit but so will the 4p nissin! :-D

Wait a second!!!!!!....I have been going nuts trying to find a complete front end off of a gsxr 750 or 1100 for my 81 gs1100e!!! Now I see this thread? Can some one tell me exactly what parts I need to do this before i lose the few hairs I have left on my head?

mine is a mix of parts, not the easiest way to go.
rebuilt GS 1150 EF frontend, gsx-R 1100 ('90-92) wheel and nissin calipers, GSF 750 (290mm) rotors. you'll need to make a couple of shims and something to stabilize the speedo drive from gsx-R donor bike :-D

If you want easy put a complete newer GSXR 750-1000 almost a bolt on.go to the gallery, (1981 GS 750 Larry Taylor)

The 1150 frontend was easier than the GSXR frontend the head light and speedo goes on as stock. Using the GSXR frontend i had to make a mount for them

those pics are of the same bike? if so, do you have the front end and swingarm for sale?.... first pic is Bad Ass!!!

I can't quite follow what is what here. Can anyone confirm if a later model 17 inch wheel will fit a GS1150 EF and whether the EF rotor and calipers fit the new wheel or whether the rotor and calipers off the later model have to be used.

TIA

Stange mix:

3.5x17" Busa wheel, 1150 triple and GS1100EZ forks?
Do I have that right?

I see your 750 in the same color as the 1100 is Badd A$$ (USD and over braced arm)

Ditto for me. Is it necessary or somehow better to use the GS1100EZ forks?
Can the 1150 forks be used or is that a disadvantage?

It would be nice if someone out there can clarify this. I would also like to know what the pro's and cons (from the perspective of personal experience) are between the original set up with 16" front wheel and a 17" transplant.

I am not sure it is even necessary. Maybe my fat ass is enough to address the front bias weight distribution (is 60/40 right?)

Anybody??

I'l guess. :o

It might be that this quirky comination works because the 1150 triple is wider and uses a 39mm fork(??), but by staying with the 37mm 1100E fork maybe there is more room between the forks for the wider wheel (3.5x17" and 120/70-17). Off hand I dont know the size of the front 16" wheel but I think it is wider than the GS1100E tire/wheel. I would guess the 3.5" wheel is a tight fit even if as described above does "work".

The 1st GEN GSXR forks are 41mm diameter and were designed for a 18x2.75" wheel (110/80-18). It will also fit the 3.5x17" wheel/tire.

The 1150 forks are probably longer than the GSXR because of not only the 2" difference if wheel diam, eter, but also the GS1150 is an older design than the GSXR and the travels tended to be longer.

As i read it thats a gsxr11 (slingshot) wheel not a busa which makes sense as the busa wheel uses a much lager spindle

tone :)

Thanks guys, I suppose that this is all meaning that there isn't a 17" wheel that will slot straight into the forks of a GS1150 E F/S? Which is what I was trying to look into. I hear that the GS1150 ES has handling disadvantages with the 16".

not sure what you don't understand, go back to page 1, my two post.

yes a 17in. will fit the GS1150/EFE forks and the low profile radial tire makes it the same size as a 16in. wheel with a bias ply.
you can use the calipers off of the donor bike 320mm but will have to make brackets or use 290mm off of 1st gen. gsxF/katana

couple of shims to line up the rotors with the calipers and something to stop the speedo drive from spinning and you're in :)
