Hi So is this your bike as well? U must be Bert's freind? He sent me these pics once.

not sure what you don't understand, go back to page 1, my two post.

yes a 17in. will fit the GS1150/EFE forks and the low profile radial tire makes it the same size as a 16in. wheel with a bias ply.
you can use the calipers off of the donor bike 320mm but will have to make brackets or use 290mm off of 1st gen. gsxF/katana

couple of shims to line up the rotors with the calipers and something to stop the speedo drive from spinning and you're in :)

Thanks SoloSuzuki,

Can you please tell me what model is the 17" wheel that fits and is there a particular reason for using a low profile tyre, as I was thinking that te point of the exercise was to end up with a bigger wheel radius and a possibly a better tyre profile? btw that is a really nice bike and cool seat.

yep! the black GS (82) and the Kat in my avatar are mine
i took that pic of bert's and mine before he moved out to the west coast
his bike was built by a friend of mine, you can check some of them in the 'friends' section of my site ;)

mine came off of an '91 gsxR-1100, modern radials are lower profile and will give you a wider patch/traction and better rubber choice

bigger wheel radius? unless you're planning to do some offroad riding :D

and thanks for the compliment, the bike's been more or less that way for more than 15 years, before all these bike forums. i was lucky enough to work part time in a friend's bike shop back then, so...

Ok! So if I'm getting this right, you are saying that you are happy with the smaller 16" outer wheel diameter (handling wise) but wanted the improved lean angles that are possible with a radial tyre.

After having read some of the Bike mag reviews of the time, I was under the impression that the smaller 16" front wheel was thought to be a contributing factor to handling difficulties associated with very fast turn ins and increased incidence of tank slappers. I recall reference to them being banned in Australia for a while because of those concerns.

I had thought that, that may have been a driving factor in why people changed front wheel size from 16" to 17". It appears that may have been an erroneous assumption.
