I picked up a 84 gs400s that has sat for several years. On pulling the carbs I find that there is no piston spring in either carb. Is this normal for this bike?

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

@ atrent...I have an 81 450s and upon ripping down the carbs (has only 2) I found that one had the spring and 1 did not. That that was very odd. The PO included a tech shop binder that looks like it was well used back in the day and the carb rebuild section shows that the carbs do in fact have the springs.. hope this helps

AFAIK, all CV carbs use the springs, it returns the slide to the down position.

Not all Koolaid. The ones on my 83 gs550 don't and the carbs I did for my bud's kawi 750 didn't either. Both Mikuni BS type carbs. In stead of the spring they use some of the air being "drawn" into the mouth of the carb to push the slides down.

if it were supposed to have the spring wouldnt it have the indentation in the cap that keeps it in place...and if it wasnt supposed to shouldnt it not have that indentation?...just a thought
