DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey everyone,
I am new to this forum and need some help. I bought an 83 GS450T that has a front drum brake. The brake cable needs replaced, but the local shop says they have nothing in their books for a front drum brake, only disc brake. Anyone know anything to help.

It looks like this cable (Suzuki part # 58100-44700) is NLA, and there's no aftermarket listing I can find.

Where do you live? If there's a decent motorcycle salvage yard somewhere around, they should be able to find you a good used cable -- they'll need the old one to visually match it to what they have available.

You could also have a cable made, assuming there's enough left of the old one to serve as a model for the new one -- Motion Pro offers this service: http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/custom/

Flanders sells the parts and fittings needed:

Welcome to the forums!

A front drum brake on an '83 model sounds rather odd... perhaps someone fitted an earlier front end or one from a different bike altogether?

My '82 450 has a disc front end and I don't recall seeing any other 450's with anything other than a disc front end...

Either way, hopefully Bwringer's links get you out of trouble.

I thought an '83 with drum brakes sounded odd too, but if you look at the fiche, there it is.

Oh wow, how'd I miss that?

I thought I'd been through all the 450 fiche's from around that era for one reason or another, definitely missed that though!
