A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello to all and thanks in advance. This is my first post here so hope I am not beating a dead horse, etc.

I have a 1982 GS450S model. I bought her new way back when. 31 years and 45,000 miles on her. Also have a 02' Kawasaki KLR650 and a 05' Concours.

I want to put steel braided front brake line her (want it in gold to match detail work on bike). Need to know the length to order one. I would like to leave the old one on until day of swap.

Is there a way to get the proper length from factory data, is it best to take off for an exact measurement, etc. Can I just "guestimate" the length while on the bike. Do aftermarket brake line suppliers already have this data?

Never done a custom front brake line (have done stock replacements). Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Ron!

I got my braided line from this eBay seller:

http://stores.ebay.com/coastguard1975

Several other members here used him as well and they're good lines.

Just use the details on one of his single brake line auctions and it will tell you how to measure to get exactly what you need.

I have an '82 450E myself. I bought mine in 2011 but fortunately I still have an email with the dimensions I gave him:

1. Fittings: #1 and #4.
2. Length: 860mm (33.86").
3. Angle: Type A.
4. Colour: Black.

Please verify these are right for your bike before using them as I have motorcross 'bars and an after market brake cylinder on mine so there might be a small difference, although I did measure using my old line.

Any pic's of your S?

hi and welcome. just get a piece of string, hold it up to the old line and measure the length from banjo bolt centre to centres. you can do it with the old line in place. a few MM difference wont hurt but err on longer rather than shorter. make sure you order the correct angle banjo fittings as well. most places offer multiple colour options
