A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS450 carb confusal...

I'm a bit confused when I look at different threads here on carbs for the 450. I have an '81 GS450S and according to the spreadsheet I found in one of the carb threads all of the 450's had BS34SS carbs on them. When I looked at the bikebandit website to check part numbers across the years (for interchangabilty on carb parts) I see the slide part numbers are different for 1980-81 than for the later years. Will new slides/diaphragms work in the older bodies? Mine have some holes and I was thinking about going with the diaphragms from jbmindustries. It seems easier and more sure fire than the plasti-dip repair method. I just don't want to end up with diaphragms that don't fit my carbs. If the diaphragm only part numbers were listed on bike bandit I wouldn't be asking this question, but I know the slide & diaphragm are sold as an assembly...

It seems like a guy could make some extra money 'rebuilding' slides.

The 80 - 82 450's carb's are BS34SS and are all the same. They changed in 83 but not sure what model they are.

The slides and diaphragms, jets, etc. are all different so I would suggest later ones won't fit.

Looking at the jbmindustries.com page, just measure for the right part as it looks like there are two options for BS34 carbs. Looks like just go here:

Do us all a favour if you order them and tell JBM what you're putting them on so they can add the model of bike to their list :)

Thanks, I've been looking over some of the information you gave me. I know I'm in the right place for collective wisdom on GS models. I've found owner forums and newsgroups to be extremely helpful in the past. I only hope I can add something with my presence.
