A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Good stuff, glad to hear you're enjoying it :D

I'm currently teeing up a tow to get mine off to the exhaust guys at the end of June, and just priced the suspension I want also... ouch

Suspension? What's that?! haha

Getting ready to start building the new frame:

You do have fork springs you know :p

What's the plan for the new frame? Anything wildly different to the old one or just more to your liking?

Well yes, but one day I will build a shovelhead long bike with rigid forks... yes completely rigid forks. But they will be long enough that they flex for suspension. :D

I have one word for the new frame: CLEAN

I just want it to have better lines and I'm getting rid of the messy looking swingarm/foot peg/rear motor mount area. It will have a single backbone that runs from the neck all the way down to the lower frame rails. Everything else is a surprise!

See? You'll still have some suspension :p Couldn't help myself... haha

Sounds like a neat idea, will be interesting to see how it looks in the end as I have no doubt you can pull it off...

Been gathering the tubing and things needed to build the frame... Should get it mostly done this weekend, so look for pictures soon.

To those of you restoration and cafe style guys... sorry for "destroying" yet another gs450 frame

Have you considered trailing link suspension for the front?
i.e.
%285%29+++The+1939+Gold+Star+B.S.A.+after+a+rear+suspension++%281%29.jpg

High res pic here.

Or something clever like this? (if this stuff appeals, there's plenty of discussion about this kind of thing here

Don't really have the money or desire to look for a girder for a suzuki. If I was building an old pre-unit triumph then I definitely would consider it...

I'm not too much a fan of the stuff like that torsional dampner. Just kinda looks goofy to me. I have an 8" over chrome springer from the 70's that I've thought about using and I have some 4.5" over xs650 forks that I may use if I get some triple trees for them...

Being a young mechanical engineer I do have an inquiring mind and I do like innovation and well engineered machines. But I also have a lot of art influences in my life and there is a certain flow and distinct proportions that I'm after. Modifying the frame I had was the quickest way to get the bike on the road, but now that I've been riding it I can't help but think about the things that I want to clean up or redesign and it's bugging me. I'll be offline for most of the weekend, and hopefully monday I'll have lots of good pictures for you guys to see...
