    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS450S Max Tire Size

I was looking through tons of threads, but could not find specifics as to where I could find the MAX tire size for a 1981 GS450S, right now I have two Dunlop D404s.

Front: 100/90-18
Rear: 110/90-18

I do not know what comes stock because every spec sheet I find says 3.00-18 and I do not know what that means compared to the American measurements, it sounds like it's just the width in inches. I just ordered the service manual and maybe it says it in there, but I was wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head?

Thanks I just need new tires for safety reasons, but I wouldn't mind making the rear a little fatter like this:

He has a 1981 Suzuki GS 450L so it's ALMOST the same bike, but I think the S model is the only one with both 18" rims...
 
The sizes you show are the maximum for riding

If you want a show bike that you can ride to the coffee shop, you can put those big, worthless tires on, tho you may need wider rims

The bike in the picture is nearly useless as a motorcycle, it's all form over function
 
Hey Chris, the E/S rims are the same, 1.60-18" front and 1.85-18" rear.

Stock tyre sizes are 3.00-18 front which is about a 90/90-18 and a 3.50-18 on the rear which is about a 100/90-18 I believe.

I currently have a 100/90-18 on the front and a 4.10-18 on the back. I wouldn't go any bigger on either end or the tyres will be pinched on the rim and you will actually lose out in terms of contact patch on the road.

The L's (like in the photo) have a 17" rear rim from memory but it's also wider, so no way will you safely get a tyre like that on an E/S rim.
 
Thanks y'all! I will definitely just buy a pair of Shinko 712s to replace my Dunlops now they are a nice size, but are old and have been sitting on this bike and have insane tire rot.

The fat tire is sexy, but I do not want to run into problems because I wanted to make it look "cool"
