A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I put some flat bars on my 1980 GS550E. Previously I have junked the stock wheelbarrow bars, installed Superbike bars (not bad), tried clip-ons (good but make your shoulders and neck sore after a while), and now have installed some unused flat bars from a friend that cost all of $16! I like them. The bike is nice and snappy feeling.

The bars are coupled with Avon Roadrunners. These tires are great! They wear well and handle beautifully. This old GS is really a fun bike now.

Well, your 1978 probably had the same bars as my 1980. They're the stock "GS" bars, and as far as I'm concerned, they suck. Too wide, too much pull-back, too much rise, and the make you too set back. Flat bars are flat, and on this bike, to me, finally work right.

I've gone through three sets of bars on my 550. I"m 5'5" so the drag/straight bars were to long for me. The superbike bars are about ideal.

the only problem with straight bars is they'll hit the tank.

do you still have those clipons?

Flat bars won't hit the tank. I still have the clip-ons, and they're the Tarozzi offset ones so they won't hit the tank either.

i put some z-bars w/a 3 inch rise on my 78 550 and they were just right for me

Racer BoyZ...you'd luv my L bars, not.

Here's a tip for your 550, keep the oil and filter changed, keep the tach out of the red zone and it'll last a loonnngggg time.

I got the stock 86 L bars ;)

All I need is a set of straight bars, lengthen my fork out, move the licence plate to the side, put on an uncumfy seat, and I'd have a chopper, wait, it's too quick. I'd have to put on some sort of restrictor plate, and chop off my mufflers
