DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

Glad to hear you got it back. But get over there as quick as you can. You're likely to be charged the daily rate for storage from the towing company . It happened to me when mine was stolen when it was brand new in 1983. I don't remember what the charge was but it must have been a fair bit because I do remember being pi$$ed off about paying it.....

Man, what has happened to our friendly little island??? There's been a rash of bike thefts in the last couple of years, freaks me out.

Glad you got the bike back!

Good news, the police (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) have found the bike. The suspect had cut the ignition wires and hot wired the bike. I am told he located the bike the night/morning he stole it and You Tube showed him how to both hot wire and ride it. Got to love the up and down sides of the Internet. So my Sunday will involve a round trip to Vancouver Island with the truck and ramp. I will get her home, repair the wiring and go over her from stem to stern to ensure she is sound.

What did I learn from all this? Park defensively by taking advantage of natural surveillance, use the steering lock and don't think it can't happen to you.

Thanks again to alll for the support shown.

Wow, that was quick! And surprising. The way it works down here, you fill out a shyte-load of paper work, then ask the cop what the odds are.

"Not good. It's either in a million pieces already or on a ship in the middle of the ocean."

What did I learn from all this?

1. Move to Canada

or

2. THE RCMP - very few, I'm guessing are actually mounted on horses anymore. I don't care if they're mounted on Big Wheels. You think you could send some down here, where they could teach our cops to spend less time with radar guns and more time apprehending dirtbags?

who in their right minds steals an old bike?

stealing stuff is easy
stolen stuff = free stuff
thieves will break a car window to get coins
my son had his 350000 km 30 year old car stolen twice inside of 6 months, just got driven around until it ran out of gas....YouTube thieves

I have since put a number of kill switches and nuisance switches in the old car, some hidden some not. doesn't use a key to start now.... so far so good.

hide a couple of kill switches on the bike, lock your steering and try to stay in the smaller motels where you park in front of the room door

...stay in the smaller motels where you park in front of the room door

Then open the room door, and roll the bike in. But be polite: spread some newspapers around, and before you change the oil and filter in the morning, roll it back outside. Common courtesy.

That is great news!

EXACTLY! excellent point... the older stuff comes from a kinder gentler age where the $hit$ couldn't just look up " how to steal a Civic" on their phones... certain old cars are especially popular where they have a choice...

You guys already have a wall, maybe you should borrow some of our ICE agents...

Glad you got it back.
My money says the cops knew exactly who took it and where it was likely to be found.
They might appear dumb on occasion but there is a world of difference between what you know and what you can let be known that you know.
