A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Believe it or not, these carbs are not totally shot. Both of those posts can be fixed and or carb bodies exchanged. Your hexagonal main jets are not meant to go in this carb body, you will need the round style like pictured. You already have a 122.5 main jet, this is considerably larger than stock, so it is possible someone has jetted these carbs for your setup.

My concern is what about the rest of the carb parts, which needle do you have in there? Are pilot jets stock? Hopefully, someone has taken time to correctly jet this to your bike setup.

My suggestion is fix/replace bad posts, clean existing components, note your specific parts on paper, correctly set your float levels, reassemble with new orings and see how it performs. With a big dose of luck, it may be spot on.
This is what carb #1 has in it:

Main Jet: 122.5
Air Jet: 150.0
Jet Needle: 5C45 (It has no grooves, and is not tapered)

I'll have to get the pilot jet when I get back to the house this evening.

This is all easy-peasy. There's nothing to these carbs. I was expecting something much more ominous.

:EDIT:
Pilot Jet is a 42.5

Pilot jet is 42.5.

Carb number one is cleaned, has new orings and painted up a bit.

One question though, I have a left over spring, lol. I have no idea where it came from, as I had everything in labeled correctly in zip lock bags. This was in my "Carb #1" bag...can someone tell me what this is so it can go be in it's home? I looked at all the schematics I have and it doesn't seem to have a place at all in the carb.

Either the o-ring kit didn't come with enough o-rings, or I'm using o-rings where I shouldn't. I'm two short for the fuel lines and vents.

OK - All the carbs are rebuilt, and getting ready to repair #1 since I cannot find a replacement carb body.

I just need to know what's a good baseline to set these carbs up at to at leat get it running? Like the air screw, etc?

I may have a carb body, if you don't want to take the repair route. When we were doing the rebuild on mine a couple of years back, I ended up buying I think 3 racks off ebay, all together. You're looking for the #1 body, correct? If I have one, I'll be happy to send it to you for the cost of shipping.

Yes! Please look at and let me know! That's the only thing keeping my bike off the road at the moment.

I'll be home around 6pm Eastern, will hunt through the drawer full of carb parts and see if I've got one in usable shape.

Either I am borderline retarded, or slightly stupid, or a little of both, but the carb I'm needing is the outer most right hand carb, or #4. I am so sorry...I have *NO* idea how I did that, I've been looking for the wrong damn carb body for a week now 0.o

Would you happen to have this carb body?? Please yes yes, lol.

:EDIT:

To avoid any further confusion, here's the carb in question. Furthest right, haha.

I def have a couple, but I'll have to go sort through them to see if I have one that's not messed up in some way (one set had a broken post, one set had a broken off screw, etc). I'll have to look tomorrow, but I'll post as soon as I know.

Thank you, I really appreciate your effort. Sorry about the confusion.

Hi, I have been following this thread as I also own a 1982 GS 650GL. I cross referenced the main jet you pulled from your carb 122.5, the only 32 mm carbs to use that jet in the GS series is on the 1985 GS700. Is it possible those carbs came off a GS700? Check the pilot air jet and compare it to this chart: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/images/carbspec_float_height.html
If it is a 37.5, I'd bet they came off a 700. Hope this helps...Ron

Looks like you guys got it all sorted out but I was gonna say these are different from my GS700ES carbs that I just cleaned. Mine don't have "T"s for the vent and fuel inlet. Tubes are molded into the carb bodies and I have composite CV caps. Instead of the vent "T"s I have short rubber hoses between the carbs to link the vent passages to the molded vent tubes. Thought this might help others in identifying what they have.
