    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Good evening fellas.

I am making a start on replacing my fork seals on my '85 GS650GT.

I have he manual, but I have hit a wall. I've searched everywhere (including the search function) to try and find a simple solution, so I'm hoping someones experience may help.

I'm struggling at the first step. Manual says take off rubber cap, remove retaining clip and pull out the stopper to remove the spring.
How the heck do you remove the clip?? Ive tried cir clip pliers, screwdrivers, tweezers. Please tell me there is a simple trick?

You need to depress the cap a little then dig the c-clip out of the groove with a small pick or similar. Having a helper makes it easier.
 
Brilliant, will get my good helper to give me a hand just now.

Daft question, do I need to drain the oil from the small drain at the bottom of the fork leg first?

Right, forks rebuilt with new seals etc. Now for the same problem! Me and the missus have tried to use all of our weight to compress the spring to get the 'c' clip back in, to finish off the job. Either we are not strong enough to do this, or there is a special way (tool)....? Please help!
 
Surprised that no one has bitten your head off yet for not posting your location and bike model/year in your sig. :confused: (someone might live close enough to help you. ;) )
Anyhow, have you tried bolting the forks in the TT's , allowing them to fully extend with no pressure on them and then pushing down on the tubes to install the clip?
 
Haha, thanks GSX, I have updated location and bikes! I'm not much of a computer person. Thanks for the advice, I will try that tonight after work, seems pretty logical!
 
So easy when bolted to the TT. Thanks for your experience pal. Took me 5 minutes tonight.
