I am having no luck finding the Vance and Hines megaphone exhaust part number 12013 as it is discontinued. I am putting a decent amount of money into my 1985 GS700E and need a new exhaust. I have the old V&H cannister, but the headers were disposed of. Anyone know if I can use the 12001-84 that go on the 1985GS1150? Even with some slight mods?

Thank you

I believe you can but it may leave a fair gap under the motor between it & the pipe due to the 1150 being a taller engine. I used to be in R&D at V&H so give me a call as I still have friends there & might be able to help. I can be reached at 714-356-7845. Ray.

I've got a header (no muffler) off of an '86 GSXR 750 that I don't need. Measure the center to center distance of your existing exhaust or exhaust ports. Mine is 100-120-100mm. Maybe you can use it.

1150 pipes won't fit, port diameter is different. Air cooled Gixxer pipes will fit though I can't vouch for how they fit around stock pegs. Bandit pipes should work since they used the old air cooled Gixxer motors. Here's the pipe on my bike. It's the expensive stainless Yosh Duplex with spigots and carbon can. Got lucky years ago on Ebay and picked it up for about $250.

Laser (Marshall deep tone) and Motad still make ones that fit you just have to order on for the GSX750 83-87

Thanks

Thanks

Do you know if the Marshall sounds like the V&H megaphone?

Thanks, I never came across the Marshall after all my searches.

The Marshall is deep but not loud, It's a nice sound. LeeGS550E has gone a ride with me He might be able to give you a better description on the sound. I like it on my GS700ES . The fit was good, easy to change the oil and filter, workmanship seem to be very good, the chrome is a high shine and seems to be of decent thickness.
Hope that helps.
Kevin

Yeah, Kevin's pipe is pretty nice. Nice mellow sound. I couldn't really tell ya how it sounds when he really gets on it, though, as I was plugging along on the 550 without 2nd gear, and he kept leaving me behind. :-D

The chrome also looked to be very nice quality. I picked up a V&H system for an air cooled Gixxer 750 on ebay for $115 shipped...hopefully I'll be able to report how it sounds in a few weeks (read a few months.) Its going on a 700 engine as well.

Billy,

Do you have to lose the centerstand to get a GSXR exhaust to fit? I've been keeping an eye out for a stainless exhaust, but I'd like to keep my centerstand. Maybe a Katana or Bandit exhaust would be the way to go??

I had to lose the stand, but it came off over 20 years ago anyway. The Bandit and Kat pipes probably would come very close to fitting a GS with very minor adaptation.

I've heard that the 1st generation Bandit 1200 headers will fit the GS750ES/GS700 bikes. I bought one almost two years ago now but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I've got to dig out the spare engine tomorrow so I'll at least get the chance to make sure the spacing is right at the ports. I picked it up for a project bike but I may pull my exhaust and reweld my custom work when I do a fork swap in a couple of months and if I do I'll have to post some pics of the fit.

Any of the air cooled bandit pipes should fit the ports on out range of bikes. The Bandits and Kats are based on the air cooled GSXR engine so those specs will match our bikes. THe big question is how they clear the pegs. The Bandit and Kat pipes should be less of a compromise than the Gixxer pipes like I used.

What about Bandit 600 and 400? Or are those water cooled?
I doubt the 400 pipe would work. The 600 most likely would since the 600 Kat and Bandit engine is physically the same size as a 750.

Those engines are sort of a hybrid - oil cooled. Cylinders still have some fins but there are no air passages into the head. The engine uses a high capacity oil cooler to shed heat.

Need to bring up this discussion again

Need to bring up this discussion again

OK, my motor is back from S&K racing. Half of the chrome is done, and the body is painted. Time to start painting the motor and reassembly. I am still trying for the V&H Megaphone part number 12013. Went as far as getting someone to call Japan. What I need to know is if someone has the V&H 12504 on a GS700 or 83-85 GS750. It is the SSR2 Stainless Exhaust. There is 20% restocking fee if it does not fit. So I need some reassurance it will fit or someone who wants it if it does not fit :) Thanks guys. Everyone's input previously is much appreciated.

Excuse the dumb question from me, the perpetual newbie...
1150 pipes won't fit, port diameter is different.

So 1150 pipes fit only 1150's? 1100 pipe ports are smaller? But an 1100 pipe will fit a 700:confused:.

The last pipe posted by Nicolas above is I believe what was on my 700. Nice sound, no centerstand, PITA oil changes. Hard to find. When I was selling it I had a few people who wanted just the pipe!
