Hi guys,
Another gs newbie here with some upgrade questions. Got an 82 gs750 that came with a gs850 parts bike minus tank only and a 90 katana 600 parts bike with a bad motor, otherwise complete minus plastics. Both gs bikes are dohc. The 750 is an 82 with 25k on it and it falls on it's face when u hit a hill. The 850 shows 5400 on it. I'd like to see more low end power, since there's more hills and curves than flats and straights in WV. I've seen a lot of talk about the top ends swapping on the gs bikes but it all seems to be about the two valve heads. Any ideas? And could I use the wheels and brakes off of the katana? Thanks in advance.

Not sure of what your question is.
If you want a good bike with low end torque for the roads around you,
fix the GS850.

I quess I need to clarify a bit. Since neither parts the 850 or the katana have titles and cannot be legally tagged I am going to have to use parts FROM these to make improvements to the 750. I am very good with a wrench, torch, and welder and have access (my neighbor) to a school trained bike tech. I hope this makes where I'd like to go with this a little clearer.

Sell the 850 for parts, rebuild the forks on the katana and swap the entire front end to the 750, you can even do some wiring and use the kat gauges. Them rebuild the carbs on the 750.

Ok. But isn't mixing radial up front with bias in back a recipe for disaster? P
Will the back end swap over as well. Also could I do the above with a head and jug swap?

I don't think the engine bits mix up a bit, definitely not the katana/gs engine parts. 750/850, who knows. I'm sure someone on this board.

Sorry, didn't know the '82 was still bias in the back, lame. The rear wheel will fit in the swingarm, but it'll require some work. I had to add an extra lock washer behind my front sprocket, and face off some material from the rear sprocket carrier. Also had to do some work to get the actual wheel to fit with some clever spacers. Moved the brake arm to the bottom to work with the Katana's lower caliper design. This is all on an '85, which is a monoshock swingarm, so your experience will vary. Anything will fit if you have the patients.
