    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS750 only starts with starting fluid when cold

Hello,

I can only get my bike running with starting fluid, then runs fine, until cold again, and then I have to start with starting fluid. I've read lots of posts and have cleaned the jets everything looks real clean in the carbs, didn't see any gunk, even when cleaning the pilot holes with the wire from a bread wire tie stripped of the paper. Any help will be appreciated. My bike is a 1981 GS750ex with about 68,000 miles.

I had the same problem with my 650 Kat.
The solution was a good carb cleaning step by step , following the carb clean up series in the homepage, and a new batery.

Same here. I even took the carbs off and thought I had cleaned them but it still did it. I had to follow Earls carb cleaning 101 to find out there were places that goo be hidin.

It's much better now.
 
use gas treatment into a few tanks of gas and it may do the job.

I have the same problem, and I've been told a few possiblities (I've got more problems than that if you care to hear 'em :wink: ) One solution is, yes, clean the carbs better. another could be a leaky intake manifold. post back if you find it, eh?
 
Yes I also have brand new battery and when cleaning all the jets, also squirted some chem tool carb cleaner. Oh well, I do have taking the carbs out down to a science in about 20 minutes.
 
I have the same problem with my GFs 81 GS650GL. I just discovered that the two inboard intake boots are leaking. I will fix that and hopefully that will correct the problem. One clue to a leak is that the idle sometimes is erratic. How does the bike idle once started?
 
In the bottom of the float bowls are the passages that supply fuel to the choke circuit (that hole in one corner). If even 1 is plugged it will labor to start. Make sure you can blow carb clean through them all, but be careful: it comes right back on you if plugged (wear safety glasses).
