Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

gs750 suspension conversion

I see no problem in fitting a GS 1000 stem with it's own bearings in a GS 750 frame as the outside diameter of the bearings are identical:cool:
I read an article a couple of years ago in a British magazine about a GS 750 with a GSXR G/H fork.
To me it should be a simple drop in for the GSXR 1100 K ( RSU) triples in the GS 750 frame ( except the lock stops of course) as I've used both types of forks on my GS 1000/1100's.
Else you can go for the USD GSXR forks with 954 triples as stated.

How would the 954 triples fit though? or is there enough of a gap in the steering stem that the bigger stem (by 3mm) on the 954 would fit?

Unless it is a case of turning down the 954 stem and using GS sized bearings?

Would 2004/05 GSXR 600/750 forks fit? Here is some specs on them, the top and bottom triple spacing lines up I am just worried about the spacing between the forks as I could not find any info on the 954/929 triples (was told they are the same)

IIRC the top triple for 954/929 is the same as the 2nd gen GSXR so you can mix upper and lowers. Not sure if it is GSXR 750 or 1100. Katman would know for sure.

Alright thanks, so just so I am 100%, the 929 and 954 triples are the same but I should use 90-95 gsxr 750 or up to 98 gsxr 1100 forks and rim/brakes etc?

Yes it is possible to fit a 2004+ gsxr forks by changing out the bearings and mounting the whole front end.

Use the search feature "titles only" and search words like your title "suspension conversion","front end swap" etc.. You will find lots good info.

So if I got 30x48x13 top 30x48x14 bottom bearings + an 04 gsxr 1000 front end, it would slot in?

Anyone happen to know if the stem is long enough for my 78 gs? The GSXR stem length is approx 260mm. Could not find any info online about the GS stem length.

Sorry I may have posted a bit hastily as
I'm not sure if the stem lengths are exactly the same. I'm not familiar with the 78. I just want to let you know others have mounted 2004 and newer, like in this thread... A 2008 gsxr front end on a 1980 1000 frame.
be aware that the newer forks are shorter and can cause ground clearance issues and the handling can be effected changing the trail.

Thanks, I will assume the 04 1000 fork has the same stem length as I remember the 1000 forks/stem being a straight swap (am I wrong on this?).

Yep it'll drop right in, the bearings from All Balls will come out to about $55 plus shipping.

Any chance you have the part #s I need to slot in the 03-04 GSXR 1000 front end?

For my 2002 750 front end it was 99-3540-5 and 99-3519-5, but double check on their site. Look under fork conversions and plug in your bike's info.

They do not list ANY GSXR 1000s on there, so:

GSXR1000 UPPER:
30 mm inner diameter, 55 mm outer race diameter, and 17 mm height

GSXR1000 LOWER:
30 mm inner diameter, 55 mm outer race diameter, and 17 mm height

To fit the gs, I need 30x48x13 top and 30x48x14 bottom. All balls does not have these sizes. When I call a few bearing shops tomorrow, it is tapered roller bearings I am looking for? Not sure what kind to get, never had the front end off a bike before.

Tapered or they are also known as Timken bearings

Update:

Front end ordered. Possible to fit an 01-05 GSXR 600/750 rear rim on a bandit 1200 swingarm?
