    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Morning all

Tried to do my High Idle and Vac Sync this weekend after the obligitary carb rebuild. The bike doesnt run very well it wont idle particularly and the plugs are all carbon fouled. Read a load on here last night and it seems electrical is my next adventure. I tried to check the voltage at the coils but the connectors are all encased in some kind of hard sealant. Anyone got any tips for removing it without damaging anything.

I've heard that some of the Suzuki coils have epoxy-potted leads. Most multimeters have nice, pointy ends on the probes. These can easily pierce the insulation of wires and get readings from the copper underneath. It's recommended to wear a tough glove on your other hand in case you go a bit too far though!

I just went through my coil relay mod and in the process removed the leads from one coil. Yes, they are soldered to the coil and the joint encased in epoxy. The pointy lead of the multimeter will pierce the rubber cover on the wire, as previously posted. If you do remove the wires, it wasn't as hard as I feared to solder the wires back on and and stick them into place with epoxy putty. I did notice an improvement in smoothness once the coil relay mod was completed.

So probably best to leave well alone then. I dont have point ends on my meter probes but I read somewhere about using a pin through the insulation into the wire so I will give that a go. I think the coil relay mod is probably on the agenda but I would like a before reading before I start.
