    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am currently about to restore my GS750B engine as it is starting to get a little low in compression, and I was considering my options in regards to the finished product and the look it will have.

I have been scouring the net and magazines for pictures of the original bikes so that I can see the way the engine was finished off (paint etc)

I really would like to see how the engine looked originally so that I can make a decision as to whether or not I will keep it original or going for a different look, so my question is can anyone please send me some links or pics of the original engine finish?

Also does having a black engine really reduce the engine temperature by much?

I am sorta between a few styles, I like the really clean look of a silver engine, but I have also sort of been thinking of doing something along the lines of:

satin black engine,

wrinkle finished barrels and head (with file finished cooling fin ends),

polished engine parts like:
clutch cover,
points cover,
stator cover,
drive sproket cover,
clutch release cover,

and also maybe chroming the starter motor cover.

Well in theory it should... but I haven't seen any actual figures quoted anywhere, so in the end it may only be a marginal improvement, for all we know.

The downside of a painted engine is that unless you have your head, cylinder block and cases clean of ALL traces of oil etc., your paint will start to peel off in patches before too long, and just end up looking plain crappy.

A 'wrinkle' finish might look fine for a short while, but it will catch the dust and road grime like nothing else, and be hard to keep clean.

As to what your engine should look like for your bike, have you been to www.suzukicycles.org and scoured the relevant pages for your bike there?
 
Here are some great pics of a '78 C model. http://www.ronh.org/suz750e_78.htm Other than the tank and tail color, I don't believe anything changed between the B and C models. Although the engine looks like bare aluminum, it is actually painted - silver on the barrels, head and valve cover, and clearcoat on the crankcase side covers.

Personally I prefer them just like they came from the factory...
 
The crankcase halfs and valve cover are painted silver, but the head and cylinder barrel are raw aluminum as near as I can tell (bead blasting would replicate the finish pretty closely). Crankcase side covers are polished and clear coated.
