    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS750L Seat ideas anyone?

Anyone out there have an L and did seat modifications on it? I still want to keep it a 2 up seat so I'm not going for the solo seat/cafe tail section but if anyone has any 2 up pics of a new seat I'd appreciate it!
 
I have a stepped seat and I think i'm going to redo it myself...the leather on it now is old and 2 buttons popped off, so I'm going to buy some new material and attempt to do it...i will post pix when I get it done.
 
Yeah it's stepped. Kind of an eye sore in my opinion. I'm getting used to it but I still want something different.
 
You could try something like this. It is a Corbin Sportster seat. Mounted old school and bolted to the rear fender. Had to cut the front and rear mounts off.
 
My current GS850 L has a really poor seat..
I will be taking on the task of stripping it off and doing a re-foam cushion and new covering...
I have some ideas - and a plan on what I wish to accomplish...
I have sourced the materials needed as I see it (except for the new vinyl cover which I am getting material at a local marine supply place)

The "L" seat is horrible on my 850 - the 650 I had last year was quite comfortable . I think the L style compresses the seat too quickly and forces the rider forward onto the tank too much...

At least mine does.... Please take pictures of your process and results to share with everyone...That is my plan...

How did you attach the front of the seat? That's actually a pretty good fit. Can you snag some more pictures of what you did? I might go that option. Also what sportster seat is it?

Well I was going to wait until I got it back from the upholster but I am not sure when that will be so here is what I did, I carefully removed the cover to get to the foam. I then Began the shaping process with a serrated bread knife to get rid of some of the larger portions of foam. Next I used a dremel with a sanding cylinder to get it a bit smoother and even, after that I used (either 60 or 80 grit) sand paper fixed to a block of wood to sand/shape the foam to the final shape. I think I spent about 90% of my time and effort with the sanding block because once removed it is really hard to put foam back on and it is easy to get a nice smooth finish on the foam which is important for recovering. Luckily my original cover was in good condition so I planned on using at least some of the center part (with the grid stitching) for the new cover. I did a little mock up pattern with paper so I had more than ideas to take to the upholstery guy to make sure we were on the same page as far as what I wanted. I think I did more shaping than what the pics show but you get the basic idea, hopefully I get the seat back next week and I will post pics of the finished seat on the bike.

All I know is it is off a Harley Sportster and made by Corbin.
