OK, so I was noticed a wet patch on floor under exhaust this morning. Turns out the air filter housing has quite a bit of fuel in there. Have ordered an inline fuel shut off tap. But also think that a float needle valve/s may not be shutting properly. If the vacuum tap is letting by, would this cause this, or would I definitely have sticky needle valves? Just wondering if I should wait for the inline shut off valve to come, to see if that stops it. Or do I just go for it, and pull the carbs?

Your fuel tap is leaking..eventually ,like overnight, this will overpower the fuel needle seats. I'd install new tap or shutoff and see if this does the trick without pulling carbs.

Just took off the petcock and stripped it. It had quite a bit of black crusty stuff in it. i cleaned it out and did not find any holes in diaphram, the O ring looked and felt good. Just put it back and run it. Now going to see if it happens again. It had flooded the far left cylinder and would not fire for a while. But now fine. i have put it on center stand to see if it makes a difference. Then if ok tomorrow, I will put on side stand and see what happens.

First, check your oil to see if the gas got in there also

Check your oil level. When it floods the cylinders itll leak past the rings into the sump and contaminate your oil. I had constant problems out of a Bandit with this issue. The vacuum fuel valve never worked right. Same thing on the 78GS1000. I fixed that with a pingel valve.

I'm rolling the dice on my 82 GS850 and installing a new OEM fuel valve. Let's see how long till it fails.

I installed a vacuum petcock from georgefix (looks like the genuine one )back in 2010 and it's still working fine.

Love that dude. Nothing but excellent service and parts. I try to buy as much from him as possible.

I've had a bunch of Zukis with the Vacuum petcocks and I've yet to have one that didn't fail in short order. Maybe I'm just unlucky or something. Even on a 00' Bandit I bought in 01'. It failed before 20k miles filling my cylinders with fuel more than once. Replaced with an OEM unit, failed 10,000 miles later, replaced with pingel and as far as I know it's still runnign around in Illionis somewhere with that same valve. Just have to remember to shut it off lol

I think the modern day fuel plays hell with them. I went with a Pingel as well.
