    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS850 choke (enrichment) operation

I just bought a set of 32mm CV carbs from a 1982 GS850.:clap:
These arrived with a type of bracket which is J shaped for the choke cable.

My choke is operated from the centre of the yokes and not the handlebar.
Can the carbs be "converted" please?

OR

Do I need the left handlebar switchgear with the thumb lever?:cry:

(I have also asked more or less the same question in another thread after searching)

Yes, I assume you have another set of carbs with the correct linkage on it.

First, remove the cable brackets from the carb top. Second, look for a rod on the front side above the throat, it has 4 slotted set screws holding the choke plunger actuators. Back those screws out far enough to remove the rod. Keep the plunger actuators in order, they are not all the same. Swap it all to the new carbs and you're done.

I can transfer the rod no problem but the new carbs don't seem to have anywhere to fix the existing choke cable to:confused:
 
On the older carbs there is a bracket bolted to #2 carb top that holds the choke cable. It has an arm that connects to carb 2's choke punger actuator. The throttle cable has it's own bracket on #3. On the newer ones with the J shapped choke cable attachment point it's all one bracket. The bracket in question sticks up about 1 1/2 inch.

Do you know if there is there a choke cable that fits through the J bracket on #2 carb, that can be operated with the pre 82 choke knob (sited between the hanglebars) or do I have to go the bar mounted route?

I do appreciate your help.

No, there is not.

If you want to go that route, you will have to either change to a newer left switch housing or adapt your current one to handle the lever for the newer "choke".

I have adapted an earlier housing to my son's 82 650GL, so I do know that it's possible.

Steve's right.

An alteritave might be a different lever to oppeate the cable. I entertained the idea of using a bicycle gear changer lever to opperate my choke. I found the bracket I needed and didn't have to explore that any farther. If all else fails put a cable tie around the #1 choke plunger actuator and pull it by hand. That may tax your dexterity though. Three hands will be needed for the strart-up sequence. You've already shown your ingenuity with that trike build, I bet you can make it work.

The choke lever on mine has recently broken so I just pull on the linkage from the left side of the carbs.

Now I have both sets of carbs in front of me I have no problem swopping over the choke bar and brackets so that I can use my existing choke cable.:clap:
