    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello friends,

Forgive the shameless tooting of my own horn.

Mr. bwringer will soon have another great tutorial on his website concerning this subject. His will of course have the in-depth detail and polish for which he is known. I'm honored that he would use some of my material.

For those of you who requested a PDF version, I have my material collected in a PDF file online here.

It's on my "BikeCliff" webpage, which isn't really a webpage yet. It's just holding this one file at the moment and it will stay there as long as I pay my ISP bill. :-D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

... and it takes just that long for me to shamelessly steal your pdf and post it on my website, which will be around no matter what you do with your ISP.

So there!

Ironically enough, my server is acting up. It's usually stone reliable.

This PDF will be very helpful for the jillions of people who ask questions about the procedure. It's so much easier to refer to a prepared set of instructions like yours than to start from scratch every time.

Nice job and thanks for the effort.

Mr. robertbarr,

Thank you! I am pleased and honored that you would use this file on your site. Everyone is welcome to their own copy too. It's less than 3MB so even a dial-up connection shouldn't take too long.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

And if you are interested in a little Excel spreadsheet that helps you figure your clearances and what your shims should be, click on my name, send me an e-mail (not a PM), but be sure to put something about GSR or valve adjust in the subject line.

It just keeps getting better!

Thanks Mr. Steve! A perfect companion! Perhaps Mr. bwringer would want to include the file in his tutorial also. Or Mr. robertbarr can host it too?

I love this bunch of motorcyclists! :-D

Youre a bloody little ripper Basscliff, I had difficulty doing this on the weekend and still not sure if I did it properley even then. I will have another go this weekend.

Cheers

You even type with an accent! :-D

Thanks! (I think) I did put a little gash in my leg when I ran into a sharp corner on my highway bars. But my boo-boo is all better now, healing nicely. :-D

Here's the original thread. The information in the PDF file is pretty much the same. I did not go into a lot of detail about how to calculate shim size replacements or how to use a micrometer or feeler gauges. If you have any questions, just let us know. Do you have a manual for your GS850? If not, PM me.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I saw the original thread, very well done. Your camera takes a lot better pics than mine. This is something that needs to be added to the garage section along with the stator papers and CV carb rebuild series.
