GS850G after I unbolted some ugly

I have the whole thing for sale. Mounting bracket and all hardware, umbilical cord in good condition and all lights work on the fairing. I have a guy supposed to be getting with me to pickup the fairing. If he doesn't need the mount and anything else, you can have it. I'll ping him and see if he is still interested in the fairing. He told me it was to replace a broken fairing he has on a GS850 so he may not need or want the mounting stuff.

1st come, 1st served!
"IF" he doesn't want/need the mount.....PM me and we'll work it out because I could use it for my windstar fairing I just got.

Hey Bob.,.,. Too bad you don't live closer I'd just give you the whole thing fairing and all. I'm tired of tripping over it. But I'm keeping the bags.

When you mentioned you had an ad, I looked for it in St Louis CL but didn't see it...must've missed it or something.
Yeah, we're not that close...mapquest says 260 miles @ 4.5 hours......usps or ups would be easier for the bracket transfer if the other guy doesn't want/need it.

Ha, don't know how I missed it....was looking under St L, CL...but I guess I did.
My windstar was only $30, but shipping came in @ $48....still worth it since she had keys, a good shield and was cherry - with the exception of the custom pin stripping {which is being removed as we speak}oswego cruise 002.jpg

You might be "first served", but wouldn't you rather have something you could USE??? :-k

Before you get that bracket, read THIS.

The Quicksilver and the Windjammer do not use the same mounting bracket.

.

Yeah, I read the site top to bottom even after it said "I know nothing about rooster or windstar fairings since they were made after I sold the company"....still interesting reading.
Worst case- I figure making a pair of offset plates "if" the windjammer mounts are narrower...if they're wider, then I'll hit up my friend who can weld to modify a bracket, when I can lay hands on one....I want this to happen.

So, two questions;
1) will you sell me that bracket?
2) can you measure it where the top plates are for front to back and side to side hole spacing ...I have my fairing to measure by to make sure this works.
....my fairing front side to side width spacing of - forward set @ 12 1/8" / back set @ 13 1/2"
....my fairing side hole spacing running front to back is 5 1/8" on both sides
...let's see how these compare. When it's all said and done I'll post specs on my "Windstar opinions" thread for others to go by in the future.

I think the "hard" part would be the interface to the bike. If you have a welder available, it shouldn't be too hard to mock up the rails that the fairing attaches to.

That's my plan "B", and it's in two parts...if I can't find a useable bracket then the plan is to make one - but actual mounting points are of interest to me even if the fairing mounting points don't jive. Same said friend can weld me up some brackets and I'd also need to know what gauge they are too.
Alternate plan B is to hit up my machinist friend to look into the possible aspect of using the fork tubes between the triples to attach to...way left field there but who knows...

If you look at the bracket used on most of the frame-mounted aftermarket fairings from "back in the day", it's a wonder that they actually worked.

The ones that I have seen (Pacifico and Vetter) are just basically some partial-round pieces that fit over the frame tubes and are clamped on with U-bolts.
The fairing sits on some flat steel runners, and there are various tubes running between those runners and the parts clamped to the frame tubes.
If you look at the forces applied to the windshield and factor in the leverage that is applied to those mounts, you will appreciate just how strongly they are built.

No idea what gauge tubing (or is it solid) is used, but it apparently works.

I'm sure it's hollow tubing...mild steel...if it's not "L" stock...never seen one up close.
My left field thoughts were something along the lines of "clip on bar" type mounting, just wider spread to dissipate the load factors well. Stock or via the top fork tubes {between the triple clamps} it's both sprung weight, so no real difference there.Only real problem with fork tube mounts would be swing width and wind buffering into the handlebars...frames probably the best bet for a reason...but I like to think outside the box when I can.

Vetter's site has plenty of DIY-made Windjammer brackets on show and on the www.vetterowners.com site, there's no shortage of people who've adapted existing (usually Goldie or XS, which seem to have the commonest) to other contemporary or more modern models.
My next feat will be to fit a GS850/1000 bracket to my XJ900 - happily, it's very close to the needed distance and downtube angles and the only thing in the way is the oil cooler.
Once I've got that on, I have a choice of a WJ or a UK-made v.good knockoff.
One thing to be wary of - a lot of the NOS brackets on ebay are probably NOS for a reason - they might have been damaged or badly-made customer returns. As always, buyer beware.

I really want to sell, or even give away the whole thing. Fairing and mounting hardware. Sure as I get rid of the mount someone will want to buy the whole thing from me.

Possibly, but did the guy want it for the fairing, the mount, or both?.....not that many 850s out there as there are others...

I just talked to him and he is coming over at 2:30 today to pick up the whole thing. I asked if he wanted the mount and he said yes. Sorry, Bob, that I couldn't help you.
