    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have done the search but can't find anything really specific on the rebuild. I have the outer seal, the circlip and the rod off, but have no idea how to get to the spring and seals inside. I looked on the microfiche and they do come out, but I do not want to force any thing. All help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Nothing holds the piston, cup and spring in. if it doesn't come out by rapping it on a wooden board then more than likely the piston is corroded to the bore.

do you have a rebuild kit for it, or is this a take apart, clean and reassemble project?
 
remove the banjo bolt from the opposite end of the MC, then simply push the insides out using a small screwdriver or similer. shouldn't be stuck very hard...

there's a piston/seal assy & spring/rubber cap in there.

Be careful, there is a rubber check valve at the banjo bolt end of the spring.

Thank you Rustybronco, I have a rebuild kit, but having read your reply and looked at the piece, I think you are correct. I sprayed some stuff in there to try to unfreeze it. When it was on the bike and I pushed on the pedal there was a noise like some fluid was moving inside, so I suspect (I really hope and pray) it may not be too badly frozen. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you:confused:
 
Put a little penetrating oil around the area where the piston meets the bore, slightly tap it back and forth with a wooden dowel/stick on the piston end and a small punch/screwdriver from the banjo bolt end. eventually it will loosen and come out.

I just did my '80 last Sunday that was stuck bad and damaged the check valve, thank God I had a spare from a Honda.
