GS850L Makeover

I am rebuilding my 80 850L over this winter and I need some pointers on a few things,
I have a dent in the top of my tank and plan to get someone to knock it out and then i will repaint the tank and side covers.
I was wondering for those who have this bike and have had it repainted what I can do in regards to the rubber gasket that sits behind the fuel lever sensor cover. PN 34888-49000
I cannot find one online and I'm quite worried when I take off the cover the rubber will be too brittle much like other pieces of rubber i've replaced on my bike. However the bike has been repainted in the past so I'm not sure if the gasket is 45 years old or if its newer. But regardless what should I do if the gasket is unusable? Also My bike is sitting at 17500 miles and at 12500 it was serviced by a local suzuki dealership and it sat for 10 years. When I got it I rebuilt the carbs and did some other maintenance. What I'm getting at is would it be wise to check the Valve clearance or would that be a waste of my time at this current state? one of the half moon gaskets is leaking so i will already be in the valves replacing all 4 gaskets and in turn a valve cover gasket but wanted your opinions.

I think you answered your own question. It would be silly not to check your clearances since you're already there. It costs you nothing but a few minutes time (provided you have the range of feeler gauges you need). If will only cost you something if you need shims (maybe). And wouldn't you just want to KNOW that your clearances are in-spec? I know I would.

While you're in there, better check clearances for good measure.

On the gasket - that part number is for the half circle one that goes under the drain plate if the main gasket leaks. I don't see any available anywhere but I would imagine you could just cut one from some rubber sheet and would be adequate for that.

The gasket that seals the fuel gauge to the tank is still available if you need that one.

Ok, thanks for the help. I wasnt sure whether that gasket is absolutely integral.

The cover over the top of the fuel sending unit is a back-up, redundant, catch can funnel, with a nipple on the bottom for a hose. If the main fuel sending unit seal fails, the catch can will keep fuel from dripping down on top of your hot engine. Run the rubber hose down to the ground somewhere, away from the rear tire. Same for float bowl overflows, if your carbs have them. If a leak occurs, you don't want gas dumping out in front of the tire.

Regarding the seal, you should be able to fabricate one easily enough. A properly fuel proof sealer could even be used. Key about fuel proof, since many common RTV products are not fuel proof.
