A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

gsx 250 coils

Forum Sage
Does anyone know if the coils for a 1980 gsx 250
Allow the ht lead to come off ?

I simply cannot tell if you can ?
Is it sealed inside or can you like every other
Coil pull / unscrew the cable from coil ?

If they are anything like the coils on my 1980 450, the ht leads are epoxied in to the coils. But, there are a few threads on here showing how people have successfully used dental picks, etc. to chip away the epoxy and remove the wires so they can be replaced.

I could yank them real hard and see but i think they are as you describe and set in there.
What a sh*&e design.

Never bought aftermarket coils but if the frame connections are 80cm center to center
is it easy to find some ?

My tests however showed:
LH and Rh coil:
Prim 4.2 ohms
Secondary 11000 ohms without plug 19000 with the plug on

plug caps 5000 ohms (new)

If you think you need to replace them, any single lead coil with the primary between 3.0 and 4.5
ohms will suit. I like Kawasaki 400/500 twin coils - and the leads screw in to those...

Can i just double check something on coils.

When testing with a multi meter:

Primary coil - i have never had a bad one and is usually for mine 3.5 - 5 ohms with the lowest setting on all my bikes
Secondary coil - >> using a 2000 setting on my multi meter if you get "1" they are dead !
(On my gsx i get 10000 ohms)

Would you agree ?
I only ask as i am trying to get some coils for another bike and keep getting sent dead ones !
i.e. when i test they show "1" on secondary.
