A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

The views expressed in this forum are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of "The GSResources" or the editors.

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

...or colortune for those of you south of our border.

This product is a sparkplug with a window, that lets you see the colour of the combustion flame in the cylinder. You can also see the spark, and determine wether the cylinder is firing properly.

I had been trying to get my GS1100GK running properly all summer. I had cleaned and re-installed the carburetors, and tried to adjust them so the bike ran properly to no avail. Every time I pulled the plugs -- black soot. I needed to balance the carburetors anyway, and reading the reviews, settled on the Morgan Carbtune ( a great product reviewed elsewhere on this site). While browsing their site (www.carbtune.com) I came across the colourtune product, and said to myself, "Why not?"

Once the colourtune was installed in the motor, all Earl's descriptions became clear. Apparently, the previous owner had enlarged the jets in cleaning the carburetors, and no matter the adjustment, the bike would run rich. Without the colourtune, there was no simple way to determine this. All the adjustments by ear did little good, as the carburetor could not be properly tuned.

Once fresh jets were installed, adjustment was easly accomplished, and the bike's performance can be monitored through the full rev range. Imagine doing a complete plug test in your driveway in a few seconds, rather than hours to make adjustments with multiple test runs. The colourtune allows this as you can see what is happening in the cylinder at any speed. If you wished, you could purchase enough to fill all the cylinders, and tune the bike even faster.

The tool comes with a concise & clear manual, but seems writen for either cars or Harley- Davidsons, as the engine speed described in the notes are at the low end of the scale. However, once you recognize this, and think of the engine speeds noted as being relative, rather than absolute, you get back on track quickly..

I wish I held the patent on this product. There should be one in every home mechanic's toolkit.

Ease of use 5/5
Value 5/5
Clarity of instructions 4/5

Um, wasn't the black soot on the plugs a big clue that the bike was running rich?

Anyway, it does sound like a big time saver, and much cheaper than an oxygen sensor.

I've also found drilled-out jets, and the boneheads who perpetrate this crime against good mixture should be beaten with a rusty handlebar.
