A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have the stock 450 bars and grips.. I want something more comfortable.. To me that would mean maybe a bit higher and the handles would be closer to me a bit.. Is this known issue and there is a handy replacement or just go shopping and find what i like?

Sounds like a set of 450L bars might be to your liking.

You will probably have to get some L cables, too.

.

I have never seen L bars for a 450, but the L bars I have seen (750, 850, 1000) are pretty extreme to this rider. I would suggest taking measurements of what you have, then attempting to find out what might suit you (sit on the bike, tell yourself "I would like my hands to be here") and see if an aftermarket set comes close. Bars are inexpensive, so I would certainly find a set that is comfortable before spending any money on the proper length cables, which will almost certainly need to be replaced.

I have never seen L bars for a 450, ...
Just curious what all bikes came with similar bars, I looked up the part number for the '81 L bars and pugged that number into the reverse search on Alpha.
Would you believe that the '81 450L bars came on ... nothing else? I checked the '82 L and '83 L, same thing. Different part numbers for each of the three years.

Here is the '81 450T that my son started with several years ago:

To me, those look a lot like G bars, my suggestion for L bars still stands. :D

Thanks guys.. I am taking the bike out to cycle psyco tomorrow. They recycle parts for old bikes.. I am getting a new brake line made anyway so maybe i will find something..

Do like KK said in his post and sit on your bike and place your hands where you would like the handlebar to be and find one that fits. ;)
