Hi,

I have a 78 GS1000E that has a leaking petcock. The OEM petcock is $300 USD which is closer to $375 CAD for us up in Canada...Yikes! Ebay has a petcock for sale here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-Mode...GS1000&hash=item2cc36d6a4f:g:ukwAAOSwNcZZdn3-

I emailed the seller, but he didn't tell me what brand it was, only it wasn't OEM. Has anyone used one of these? Just wondering if I am wasting my time or not.

Digging through the old posts it looks like the petcock from a 78 GS750 would work as well, the only difference being the location of the vacuum and fuel lines are slightly different. These go for $100USD from Suzuki. I guess that is an option as well.

Thanks to anyone who has any input.

Regards,

Pat

Don't know what brand that might be, nor have I heard of the seller. Many here have gotten petcocks from another eBay seller with good results. Can't rememer the exact name, but it has "George" in it. Might be "WiredGeorge" or "GeorgeFix" or something like that.

I think it's Georgefix. I've bought two petcocks from him and holding them side by side with the originals I'm pretty sure they are the same ones Suzuki sells. Don't know the seller referred to but I would recommend George......

Just installed one,not from ebay, somewhere on net, maybe bikebandit,49.99 I think, had it on couple weeks now no problems.

It could also be a K&L Supply aftermarket petcock. There are a lot of eBay'ers selling K&L Supply petcocks as K&L does not sell to the public.

I bought my petcock from "retro-motorcycles" on ebay and 1000 miles later still fine. Dont know if he has one for your bike but it is worth a look.

I just put a gs1100g petcock on my gs1000c, the price is more that 4 time less and its an OEM petcock.
I made the switch because of clearance issue, its much smaller.

Canadian here too, had the same situation a few months ago looking for a petcock. OEM ones were too expensive, and universal ones with adapter plates were $100+. I ended up bringing my tank to an old motorcycle shop that had a huge collection of petcocks. I found one that fit, and walked away with it for $30 CAD! Other than having to order a new gasket, its been working like a charm ever since. Good luck!

I also bought a K&L from Z1 for the '80 tank on my bike. Compared to the factory Petcock I had originally bought they are identical in all respects. The new petcock came in a box that said made in Japan with no K&L markings. I would bet they came out of the factory that built them for Suzuki.

I bought one from Z1 and have had no problems with it. I did have to ream the slot out a bit to get it to fit. It has been on for five years now with no problems. Originally I bought a kit to repair mine but gave up on that as it would not stop seeping fuel. Many on this site have discouraged the repair kits.
