    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Haynes or Clymer?

since I'm sick of waiting for the PO to get back to me with the promised workshop manual for the GS1000G, I've decided I'll just go an buy one.
any opinions on which is better - Haynes or Clymer?
anyone selling one that covers a 1981 GS1000G?
any Aussie riders with a tip for a source of cheap manuals?
will these questions ever end?
 
I have a Haynes for my 1980 GS1000S.
Has saved my ass more than once.

If you're asking which is better......can't answer,but I can say the Haynes has helped me.

Check ebay, there were a couple of each on there yesterday.
 
The factory manual is the best IMHO. The other two manuals are nice to have but just don't work as well.

I've used both, and greatly prefer the Clymer's. A factory manual is also useful, but refers to a lot of specialty tools that you're not likely to have.

Just one opinion...
 
I have both for my 77gs550 and while they are both good, I lean towards the Clymer. It has more pictures I think. I do also have the Factory shop manual for my 80gs1000e and while it assumes you know more about mechanics, its very deep with the info. I say get all 3! :lol:
 
thanks for all the advice. I think I'll go for a Clymer one.
you guys have access to a lot of cheap parts (and manuals) over there, but as usualy the shipping kills me!

thanks for the web links SqDancerLyn, but I'm after a little more detail than those sites provide.
