A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

are coming on at random, with no problems in the operation of headlite and taillite, 1st noticed this on my '82 GS1100e that has 80k on it, now is showing up on my '83 GS1100e with 34k on it, and my son's '82 GS1100e that has <20k on it has done it a bit as well...what's up with this??? Is there a bulb moniter box needing replaced on all 3 bikes??? Didn't find anything in search, but this seems like an awfully common prob. if all 3 of our 1100e's are having this glitch...

Sounds like an intermittent grounding problem. Time to get the wiring diagram out and start tracing. If you are lucky it will be the same point for all the bikes.

I'm not getting any flickering of any of the lights being monitored, headlite, tailite, and stoplite all work flawlessly...yet the warning lights come on and stay on for random times...sometime just one, sometimes two at a time...I could start cleaning all the ground connections, I'm more inclined to think some black box is just flakeing out with age...

As you wish. Did you check the wiring diagram to see the source that particular bulb is connected to? It is all there if you take the time to look.

yeah, I'll do that, and while I'm in the schematics, I'll look for the bulb monitor circuit and just what that part is called...So you haven't heard of problems with the bulb monitor???

Same thing here on my 1100E...just the taillight, though...
I've tried different things with no luck, so I just ignore it. Someday I may pull the bulb in the cluster...:)

I noticed in the wiring diagram, there's a "control unit" for the panel indicators...anyone have to replace this unit to cure the false indications on the idiot lite panel???

Did a search and found this thread. My 83 GS1100E is doing this. Red lights going on and off at random. Has anyone found a common cause?

I changed the control box on my 83 GS1100E and seen no difference clean the grounds and check the plugs clean any and all wire ends and go from there
