Can someone help me out with the name and id number shown on the headlight lens of a known original 1982 gs850g headlamp lens and or a picture of the same lens.

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Are you trying to replace the light?
If so, are you trying to keep it original for show purposes, or are you just looking for a better light?
If you want original, I would think that ordering from a dealer, BikeBandit, Z1 Enterprises, or a similar source would get you an original light. If you are looking for better, look at getting a Hella or other European light. They (the Europeans) have always had better lighting availble than we have.

When i bought the gs it had a wagner britelite halogen sealed beam headlight in it,
the light burned out in my cb750f (sealed beam also) and it came with a spare stanley 001-1970 h4 headlamp lens in a box of extra parts, that light is now in the gs and the wagner that was in the gs is going into the cb750f, the light output is fine with a sylvania 9003xv bulb, but I want to the get the correct lens for gs in the future, if the stanley is not the correct one.
sometimes the replacement parts are not correct to the parts that came on it, I just like things bone stock or to have things on the shelf to make it that way

"Bone Stock" is best if you are entering a Concours competition.
In those types of competition, you had better even have the correct oil in the crankcase. 8-[
While stock is nice, I would rather go with function. You indicate that the Stanley has an H4 bulb. This might be close to the original, if not the actual one. A good lens/reflector unit with an H4 bulb will out-perform an American sealed-beam bulb any day.
By out-perform, I mean better beam pattern and, likely, longer life, besides cheaper replacement if the bulb does burn out. You also have the option for brighter bulbs, if you wish. You have to be careful with our minimal charging systems if you want brighter bulbs, but they are available. I have used brighter bulbs in my cars for the last 20 years or so, and nobody has ever commented on them, because they are properly aimed.

My '80 GS1100E has a "Stanley" headlight as well. I just assumed that it had been replaced at one time, but the name threw me off.

OK, I just went out to the garage and checked. My wife's 850L came from the factory with a 6" light, the number on it is also a Stanley number, 001-2106. I have changed it to a 7" light. I got it from a member of this board, I know it came from a GS, I don't remember what model. It is also a Stanley, 001-1970 like yours. My guess would be that it would be a common light to many models, so you can rest assured that it was (probably) the original light. 8-[

pages 31 & 32 list 750cc and larger use 001-1970, 001-2309, 001-2385's used and I just needed to verify (the report was in 1980?) and I suspected the 001-1970 was correct.
