A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have an 82 GS550L my low beam headlight won't work high beam is fine. i wsa looking online for a new headlight and i found one(see attachment) but its 2 seperate pieces does anyone know where i can buy a solid headlight or the lens so i can buy the bulb?

Have you tried spraying an electrical contact cleaner (or WD-40) into the switch assy to clean dirty contacts?? Don't take it apart, LOTS of little bits & springs & things that go BOING in the night...

Make sure all the electrical contacts in the headlight bucket are clean - may just be something is dirty and/or corroded. Check the grounds too...

Good Luck,

Mike

A 1982 550 should already have a seperate bulb type headlamp assembly. Pull out the headlamp and have a look. Bulbs are available for cheap at any auto parts store.

The lamp is a separate unit from the bulb and you can replace the bulb with either a H4 or 9003 bulb available, as someone else mentioned, from most any autoparts store.

My bulb is a solid unit the number on the front of the bulb is M71 001 1014 the numbers ib the back are faded and hard to read

Check ebay for a replacment headlamp that takes an H4 bulb. Sounds like someone replaced yours for some reason. Measure the diameter of the lamp to make sure you get the proper size.

Bulb?

Bulb?

I think you mean it's a sealed beam headlight, right?? If so, someone probably replaced the original with one from one of the mid-size Kawasakis of the same era. You could probably find one but as Nessism suggests, you'll probably be happier if you can find an original.
The OEM lens was discontinued about 6 years ago and cost about $90 when they were available. I was lucky and found a brand new one, in the box, on Ebay for about $20 (as I remember).:)
As I'm sure you can see by looking at yours, you've got to get the right one or else do some major modifications or it won't fit (because of the built-on frame).

If you have a Halogen light, that gold/brass ring on the back twists off and you can replace the bulb alone. Mine was and the guy at NAPA AUTO cross referenced a replacement 55/60 watt that works fine. If it is a sealed beam 7" round they carry those as well.

it is a sealed beam i'll try ebay for the lens and if i can't find it i go to napa I found a place that selld the halogen bulb but not the lens thanks for all of the help
