A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello!

I'm not really a new member but I seem to have lost all of my old account stuff other than my user name.

Anyway, I come and go from the forum every 2 or 3 years. About so often as I dig into major restoration of my GS. I'm back again.

My only GS is my 1982 GS1100GK that has been stripped down to the point of replicating a "G". This winter I've finally lined the tank (redcoat), am polishing the side crankcase covers, cleaning/repairing the original exhaust, testing alternative float needles and seats (viton tipped), and doing a few other minor repairs.

My other current rides are a 2008 Triumph Sprint ST, a 2017 Yamaha YZ250X, and a 2001 XR400R that I'm trying to make dual sport legal.

I'm more of an offroader, but I'm probably good for 8 to 10 thousand miles a year combined on my street stuff.

I'm a motorcycle technician by trade, but currently own a small parts/accessories shop and only do minor service work such as tires and exhaust/jetting/carb clean stuff on newer singles.

Hmmmm... I'd feel bad not sharing some helpful info today. Oh! Ancor is selling tinned marine wire on amazon. It makes great wire for your upgrades. There, I've done my part.

Thanks for having me, and I hope to be around a little more often than I have the past 4 or 5 years!

Welcome back.
Thanks for pics.

Yah, a dee-kayed GK will be lot like a G, with only a few differences.

Tell more about repairing original exhaust.

.

Well honestly, the internals to the exhaust have long since rusted out. I've got the pipes looking great after a good polish, with all new hardware, new gaskets, and more. I'm currently deciding if I want to rig a new fiberglass baffle for each pipe to try to quieten it back down or not. My friend just got through powder coating the exhaust brackets and I think I've found a good part number for the rubber dampers in the GK exhaust brackets. The brackets and dampers never seemed to have been sold separate of the exhaust but I think I've traced something that will work from a LT500 quad. The pipes will never be perfect, just trying to make the best of what I have. Have a vance and Hines hanging on the wall but didn't care for it. May end up selling it on here or on facebook GS site if someone localish desires it

Welcome back! We may have had a breif conversation on FB comparing the comforts of our GS1100g and Sprints on longer trips a few weeks back. Love the seat of the 1100g!

I think we did! That G seat is great. I think I like it better than the GK one too!
