If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

hello community , i picked up a 1978 gs 400 today. I got it to crank on the button. But then realized theres no spark. I then took the gas tank oout and notice a connector without anything connected to it. this is possibly why I have no spark since i'm missing a part. I included a pic . Please tell me if i am indeed missing a part .and whats it called...thanks community

You can download a shop manual, maybe a wiring diagram from Basscliff's site, looks like one of the ignition coils might be missing? Got a pic of the other side?

coils?

coils?

no coils are there. i checked..both coils . even checked for poisitive negative wires to coils. btw where can i get a manual? basscliff?

coils voltage

coils voltage

will check now, but as for the pics...i know my gs1100 has something in that slot or part of the harness under the tank..it cant be just like that . i mean a loose connector with nothing connected.?? ..its a 4 wire..i looked at my 82 gs1100 theres something there xcept its a 6 wire. i'm sure i'm missing a part for this 400 though..just dont' know what it is.. but i'll check now for voltage. thanks

checked it theres voltage running to the diode thing connecterdr to the orange wires. is there a ign module or cdi's for these bikes? cuase i searched and can not find one except for a recitifer

I have a GS1000. I'm sure these two bikes are different in more than a few ways. That four wire connector on my bike was for the ignition switch. Get a manual, they usually have schematics. In the mean time, where do the wires go? If you you don't power at the coils, trace the wires back to the next logical place that you would expect to have power.

Re : no spark

Re : no spark

hi again. i forgot to mention when i got this bike it did not have a key. therefore i drilled out the tumbler in the ignition and use a screw driver to turn the ignition on. but now the tumbler is stuck and only stays on the on position. therefore i unhook the battery cables whenever i want to kill the bike. i'm just basically wanting to get the bike idling and after that buy a new ignition. that has nothing to do with no spark does it? when i hook the cables to the battery . i get light to my headlight, power in my inst cluster, and when i put the hand switch on the on position and press the start button.....the bike cranks. i then run a sparkplug in the spark plug boot and ground the plug...and i find no spark at all.. then i get a test light and stick the probe into the empty spark plug boot , and i find that theres voltage ...so should it spark ..

Thanks Community I got the Gs400 running
