DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello to the greatests bunch of GS brainiacs on the internet, started bike this am as usual, started right up,5secs later just pooped out, starter relay clacks, but starter does not turn, could not jump start or clutch pop start, battery good, 16 k on clock, tried to look thru forum questions , a lot of answers, i'm confused and don't want to remove or replace parts and waste my time. please help. thanx in advance. J from P-town.

Chech your cables, sounds like something is dirty somewhere. I'd start with the main ground and then look to additional grounds, main + (red) and the like. How have you determined that the battery is good? :-k

Yes, battery is good, took off tank, all cables and connectors look good, like brand new, batttery was bought this past summer.

You need to put a meter on the battery...
Check the voltage and let us know what it is.

actually, just took out battery and it's bone f****in' dry! no acid man? don't ask me how but why would lites n everyting else go on, headlite doesnt dim when i push starter button, i guess i should start with gettin' more acid in battery first and take it from there, anyway thanx for the quick replies guys, keep it comin'!

We can give you a LOT of answers covering general things, but if you want anything more specific, we need some clues.

I'm guessing that you are working on a motorcycle. :o

Maybe even a GS, because you came here. :-\\\

Beyond that, we don't have a clue.

WHAT BIKE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???

You posted while I was composing my last post, so ...

DON'T PUT MORE ACID IN THERE

The acid never 'boils' out, only the water. Fill each cell with DISTILLED water ONLY.

After filling, put the battery on a slow charge for several hours, let it sit overnight, check the voltage. Top off the charge, if necessary, install battery in bike.

Good luck, wet-cell batteries don't like to get dry.

When your battery is back in and properly charged, check your charging system. 'Boiling' a battery dry is a sign of overcharging.

sorry steve

Thanx steve, just read your reply, I just happen to work in a hospital, so I have access to enough distilled H2O to take a bath in, I'll get some tomorrow and charge the sucker up,thanx again.

If you use ALL CAPS all the time, it's "yelling".

If you use it to emphasize a point, it's "getting your attention". :o

Now, after rounding up all that distilled water (it will only take about a quart), please utilize that little "User CP" button in the upper left corner and add a signature line to show what you ride. Does not have to be anything fancy like some of us have done, just a simple "'82 750E" would suffice. In case you didn't know it, the "Z" means it's an '82, so you don't have to use both terms.

Oh, and make sure your water is "legal". No point in losing your job over some water that can be bought in the grocery store for under a dollar.

Try jumping the battery from a car battery without the motor running.
