    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

HELP!! Carbs leaking everywhere

I just bought my bike, 82 GS450L. Everything seemed to be going ok when a buddy rode it back to my house for me. Tried to crank it up tonight, and gas started pouring out everywhere. I'm having trouble finding any hose diagrams for the 450, but there is a hose connected to each carb towards the center and the hoses aren't connected to anything on the other end. This is where most of the gas is leaking from, along with the hose coming down from the air intake. Are these just vents, or are they supposed to be hooked up somewhere?

Those are drains, you can hook hoses up to them and route them under the bike.

You're gonna have to do work to those carbs.

Any idea what kind of work to the carbs? Where to even start?

Awesome, I just ordered some o-rings, so as soon as those get here, I'll give it a good cleaning. Thanks for the help!

Not sure what "drains" you have seen on 450 carbs, but I have never seen them. :oops:

There is a vent hose that connects to each carb and hangs down to 'nothing', there is a fuel hose that goes from the "T" between the carbs to the petcock on the tank, and a vacuum line that goes from the petcock to one of the carbs (I don't remember which one).

When you say "the hose coming down from the air intake", are you referring to the drain hose? :-k
The only hoses that connect to the "air intake" are the breather hose that should connect to the breather cover on top of the engine and the drain hose on the bottom of the air box.

The hose from the intake was the drain hose, not the breather.

What is the position of the petcock?

It should be in the RUN or ON position, not PRI.
