I put a vance and hines 4 to 1 on my 82 1100L and a dyna jet stage 3 carb kit and now it does not run worth a crud. It seems like it is flooding out. Mainly when it is driving (hell can't get it barely past idle in gear.)

Do I need to adjust the fuel air mixtures?? kind of lost at this point.

I went through the exact same thing with mine. Does you bike seem to bogg down and want to die if you twist the throttle to quick? What kind of intake do you have?

Adam

Yep precisely, except it does it if I go slow as well. I am using the stock intake box. Did the same thing with the Air cleaner out.

What is worse Is I am going to Sturgis on it on Friday, Maybe.

You absolutly need the kn pod filters with the stage 3 kit. It will run horrible with anything else than what the kit was designed to use in conjunction with. I also had to change the pilot fuel jets to 47.5s.

Adam

If you cant get the pods before friday you might be able to use the stage 1 kit, I never messed with it though. Also another I had to do was lower the eclip on the needle to the second from the bottom because dynojet's instructions tend to be lean.

adam

Doubt I will be getting the pods by Friday. I may just have to call DynaJet and see what stage they should use exactly. However if it was the pod issue, wouldn't running without the Air box have caused it to not Flood out but run too lean?

Without the pods and running the stock airbox you should of installed the stage one kit. You already have it with the kit you bought, just follow the jetting instructions for the stage one.

Sounds good. I will jet it down tomorow. I thought I was done :(. Oh well, more fun repairs :).

Thanks all for the advice. I want to stick with the stock intake for as long as I can, but the Pod design is starting to grow on me.

These guys have told you correctly. One thing to ponder. Pods make it easier to remove and install the carbs but a bit harder to tune correctly. Conversely using the air box makes tuning easier but carb removal and re installation can be a bit more daunting then.

Just pipe and stock air box can be done without any jet kit. usually going up one size on the main jet and maybe raising the needle a notch is usually all that is needed. It takes experimentation but the stock Mikuni parts usually work fine for just a pipe. If using a jet kit anyway then the stage one as recommended above is all you need.

If using the stage 3 then the Pods are a must a long with the pipe.

Lots of fun to be had here

Ok, I put the stage 1 jets in the carberators and put them back on the bike. It runs now :). However, I have a bad dead spot on the bottom end when I pull down on the throttle. Do you think I need to adjust my air fule mix? I have played with it a bit and got a bit different performance but not a smooth accelleration yet.

The needle needs readjustment most likely. Do they give you the base settings for the stage one jetting? I would think that if you had it setup for the stage three setup that it will need lowered again a little bit. After that the fuel mix comes. For the fuel mix, follow the instructions in the jet kit as well. Those are all good base starting points. Once your close you can do plug reads and get it dialed in the rest of the way.

I personally would start one notch lower on the needle from the dynojet instructions. I had to go down two notches on a stage three. Best way to determine is to do throttle chops(do a search).
