A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anyone know how to clean the inside of the little Oil Level Window on the side of a '77 GS750?

Mine's totally black!
I originally thought it might just be old dirty oil mucking up the window from the PO letting it sit forever.
But after 2 oil changes, it hasn't cleared up at all!

Any ideas?
Should I just hold tight and see if it clears up after a few more oil changes??

Is there any other way to check my oil level w/o using that window?

Cuz as of now I have no way to tell if I'm low on oil besides waiting till I do an oil change and then making sure I have as much come out as I put in.

You'll have to pull the clutch cover off, and clean the window using some Qtips and some carb cleaner/degreaser or something like that. If its really crusty, might have to use something small to get in there to scrape it. I have found that a small allen wrench works, N1Elkyfan found that some wire strands stuffed in there and worked around works pretty good too...

i had to use a small flat bladed screw driver and work a small rag into it to get the crap out of mine

Get a new Clutch cover gasket before you take it off.

Kool... taking off the clutch cover to clean it doesn't look so bad.
Where's the best place to get a gasket? Will the dealer still be able to get them? Cuz they're just right up the street from me.

Yes the dealer will, but probably no faster than you can order it from BikeBandit.com or someplace like that. The dealer will have to order it as well, and they'll likely charge you more than getting it yourself.

Usually that gasket comes off clean and can be reused, also it is an easy gasket to cut out of paper.
