DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

 i just put my bike back togeather... it turns over, sometimes runs very low idol then stops. i can see a very little bit of gas dripping from the airbox drain hose. what should i do?
the bike is an '83 gs450 by the way. thanks dave

it was.. i only have a gallon of gas in the tank so i thought i should keep it on prime. is that the reason?

If you don't put it to off and leave it on prime will just dump your gas in absence of vaccum... if you have one of those petcocks that is. either way gas comign out the airbox after you don't leave it on prim when your running... you likely need to do a nice carb cleaning and you'll be good.

Good Luck

did a carb rebuild,(dip,blow,o-rings,put it back together) all parts are working. i tried to set the floar height but with brass floats did not know where to set from. it does run but very low rpms and will stall after 'bout a minute.

You have a carb overfilling for one reason or another. You shouldn't leave it on prime. If you're low on fuel you should have a reserve function on the petcock for that. As for the fuel in the airbox you either have a bad diaphram in the petcock, float level set too high, a bad o-ring on a float seat, a bad float seat, or a bad float valve. You may also have fuel getting into the crankcase. Smell the oil and see if you smell gas in the oil.

new petcock, new o-rings, float seat and valve in good order. i think it might be the float height you suggested. where do you set them if they are the brass kind?

Float needle must be sticking. If you want to play around you can remove the floatbowls, install a clean piece of tubing on the fuel inlet and then blow air in the line. If you lift up the float the air should stop flowing in that carb. Try each carb independent and see if the float needles are allowing fuel to flow.
