    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Help Identify this starterclutch/rotor gs1000,gs1100,gs1150?

Well...as some may know, my starterclutch/rotor is dead and gone and I've been looking for a replacement. Ron Ayers lists the part as discontinued as do the local bike shops. Bike bandit shows a listing but I'm checking into whether or not it's really available or discontinued as well. These two just listed on ebay, but of course, the owers aren't sure of their exact fitment.

Any ideas if either of these will fit a 84-86 GS1150? Unformtunately, my old one (now long gone) was so trashed it wouldn't have helped much in identifcation anyway. If anyone can help, let me know so I can snatch one up before it disappears (that is unless any of you gs1150 drag racers have something you'd be willing to part with).

The top pic appears to be the correct one for an 1150.

I think Earl has right from what I can tell, this is from a 1150 manual

I have an 84 1150 and the back of the rotor has a dowel boss to help the 3 allen bolts from shearing off. The pictures don't show this. Is there anything left of your combination starter/rotor?

If any mods are planned for the motor, I would look for this style rotor.

The one on the bottom does not have the starter cluch. Both look similar to my 1100's, but it's hard to tell what the diameters are of the hole for the crank. I'm not sure what the difference is on the 1150, so I cannot comment.

Some dimensions would help.
 
The rotor that has the starter clutch is from a GS1000 or GS850. The rotor uses a bolt that goes into the end of the crank. It is identified by the small hole (relatively) in the rotor.

The rotor without the starter clutch is from a GS1100 or GS1150. It is held on by a nut that threads onto the crankshaft.

They are not interchangeable.

I have an 85 1150 and there is no dowel in mine. Maybe there is supposed to be, I dont know.

I'm curious what happened to your 85 1150 rotor/starter. Did the allen bolts shear off too?

In the picture out of the manual, on this thread, it appears to show another circle where this dowel is supposed to go. I bought a rotor from a friend that was for an 1100. The copper plate sandwiched between the starter clutch and the rotor back had no hole cut for the dowel, so I used the one off the 84 1150 that was on the bike. The 1100 rotor did have a boss in the back of it.

Have you taken the starter clutch off the rotor to see if there is a hole there? Even if there is one, I discovered that the dowel is short enough to fall back into the starter clutch backing, presumably from vibration, putting all the spinning forces on the three allen bolts.

I finally had the dowel lengthened after shearing the bolts off on three different occasions. No problems since. Carter
