    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys, after replacing the front tire I reinstalled the wheel and had to compress the brake pistons to get enough wiggle room. The bike has been sitting for 5 months in a relatively warm environment while in storage and I am getting it ready to ride but when I tried to bleed the front brakes I got one pull on the handle and then all the pressure disappeared. The brake handle just flops back and forth now and I can't get anything in the way of pressure build up to even attempt to bleed off the air at the calipers (which are working fine; pulled the bleeders and checked and cleaned them) so what else could have failed to cause this??
 
Time for a brake system rebuild. Easy repair. Tons of info in the archives.
 
Make sure the pistons in the brake master cylinder is OK, and then bleed
the brakes. Remove the reservoir cover, level the bike, fill the reservoir with brake fluid dot 3 or 4.

Hook-up a clear 6mm tube to the bleed nipple, then loosen the nipple slightlywith a 8mm open-end wrench. Then pump the master cylinder
with a brake lever until the brake fluid comes out, and the brakes become tighter and responsive as the line is filled with fluid. Please do not let the reservoir go empty. Air is chased out and bled. Once you have squeezed
most of the air out, and fluid comes out evenly, close the nipple as you still pump. It should work fine after this.

If the disc brakes pads does not extend evenly by the pistons, you have to rebuild them. Very cheap and easy to do with a rebuilt kit. This depends how corroded your calipers are.

Take the system apart and clean it properly. Install new seals and a new piston if it's pitted. Replace the brake line also since it is sure to have scale on the inside. Bleeding the old brake fluid out is not good enough to get the system clean. Don't take a chance on brakes. Do the job right.

sounds like your master cylinder is shot
you can buy a rebuild kit, eg from www.z1enterprises.com
if the rest of the system is in a good shape the master cylinder kit is all you might need
