A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I had to take the sump pan off my 1000ET to repair a stripped plug.
No worries plug fixed and I even cleaned the sump pan for good measure!
I had to the bolts for the sump in order on the floor because some are longer than the others.
Long story short my 3 year old helper moved them.
I decided to try and guess where the went.
Thought I had it right. But it would seem that I was not even close.
The sump is leaking.
Does any body know the where the long and short bolts go?
Is there a tightening order like a head gasket?
I have a new gasket and both mating surfaces appear to be clean and flat.
Any ideas?

I always tighten in a criss cross pattern. I also take a second turn at it. Don't over tighten.

On the different length bolts forgive the youngster and try again.

Look up your bike on partsfinder.ridenow.com

There is a diagram that shows which bolts go where.

The young fella is forgiven. Its good to have the kids helping. Makes the time I spend working on the bike seem less selfish and they learn stuff as well.

Cheers

I really don't know answer for 1000et but one my 650g, longer bolts (3) go on front of pan. Hope it helps.

You should be able to judge what bolts go where by checking how far they stick up out above the cover before you screw them in - they should all stick out the same amount, or close to it.

Good luck.

As nessism said the bolts should all stick out by about the same amount, say 5mm of thread or shank showing before screwing in :-D

did you use a new sump gasket ? i can never get an old one to reseal fully for more than 10 minutes
