A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi,

The picture is kind of small. Are there any numbers on the part? It looks like a turn signal control unit.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Hi,

Yep, a turn signal control unit. I'm almost positive.

do you know what year and model maybe? i need a map/diagram to figuire it out to hook it up to my bike. i've been searching schematics forever to figuire this thing out lol.

Yup
Turn signal auto-off box
Look by the fuse box for a plug with the same colored wires.

Hi,

All I can tell you is that these bikes all used the same TCU:

  • 1980 GS850GL - TURN SIGNAL LAMP
  • 1980 SUZUKI GS1000ET - TURN SIGNAL LAMP
  • 1980 SUZUKI GS1000GLT - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (MODEL T)
  • 1980 SUZUKI GS1000GT - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (GS1000GT)
  • 1980 SUZUKI GS1000ST - TURN SIGNAL LAMP
  • 1980 SUZUKI GS1100ET - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (GS1100ET)
  • 1980 SUZUKI GS1100LT - TURN SIGNAL LAMP
  • 1980 SUZUKI GS850GT - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (GS850GT)
  • 1981 SUZUKI GS1000GLX - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (MODEL X)
  • 1981 SUZUKI GS1000GX - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (GS1000GX)
  • 1981 SUZUKI GS1100EX - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (GS1100EX)
  • 1981 SUZUKI GS850GLX - TURN SIGNAL LAMP
  • 1981 SUZUKI GS850GX - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (GS850GX)
  • 1982 SUZUKI GS1000SZ - TURN SIGNAL LAMP
  • 1982 SUZUKI GS850GLZ - TURN SIGNAL LAMP (MODEL Z)

That's part number 38830-49X00, which supersedes 38830-49200 and 38830-49201.

Check the wiring diagram for the bike you'd like to use this part on. Maybe you'll get lucky. My TCU hooked up on the same side as the turn signal relay, the right side of the battery box. But I don't use it any more as I have a non-stock flasher these days.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

what can i use to replace it? or maybe a good website to start looking. the modules i am finding require the harley style modules or they are used with these parts. like for L.E.D. stuff.

The TSCU tells the signals to auto cancel when certain criteria are met. The TSCU itself is not needed in the system, the lights will flash as normal, but they just won't turn off until you do so manually at the lever (the first generation TSCU's are needed or the bike won't flash but the photo shows the second generation type which is different). This device has nothing to do with the flasher relay, that's another subject entirely. For LED signals you need a special flasher relay to deal with the low resistive loads. Again, completely different part.

thank y'all for the replies. but i can't afford 200 bones. so i have to look elsewhere fix this issue.

Get a two prong relay from an auto parts store for five dollars, plug it in and go.

Hi,

There's nothing really to fix. You don't need that turn signal control unit for the blinkers to work. Have a look at the Turn Signal Relay Replacement guide on my website and see if that gives you any ideas.

And, as Mr. chef1366 mentioned:

In many cases, a generic 2-prong FL-522 or 552 flasher can be used in place of the stock turn signal flasher. Note that this will disable the auto-canceling feature of your turn signals.

Tridon, Bussman, and others make 522 and 552 flashers.

If that is a t/signal unit, and if you need a replacement, I have one sitting around that a fellow GSR member, like yourself, you can have for a few bucks plus shipping.

But I am not really certain what you are asking.

mine works and yes it is a turn signal control unit.(ty all for helping with the right term). my problem is i have no clue what year or model it came from. the wires don't match the diagram i have.(1980 gs1100l clymor). and there's no writing on it. if yours works i would be glad to purchase it, but i would need a year and model for i can look up te wiring diagram. or i would be back in the same boat:). in order to replace it, would cost me close to 200 bucks(bikebandit). for the original part, but again i have ordered from them and got a part that works but isn't the oem for that year. so i am very shy to get this part thru them. anyway hopes this clarifies a little better.
