    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So a quick update.

I got my stainless steel brake lines from Apex brakes and they look and fit great. Raymond was great to work with and the price was great too:

I also ordered front brake caliper piston boots from http://www.onlinecyclepart.com. I followed the parts fiche and ordered per the specs, but when I got them, they are different than what I currently have on my bike and don't work. It's like they're for a different model...

I followed up with them and will see what they say.

The parts in the picture are for '80 and up bikes.

That makes me wonder, ... are you SURE you have a '79? :-k

I ask that because production for the '80 model year started in about August of '79, so the production date on the VIN plate would show '79, but it would actually be an '80 model. Look for the production date, let us know.

A couple other things that would be clues:
- Do you have VM carbs or BS carbs? The VM carbs have a sort of domed rectangluar top that is held on with three screws. The BS carbs have a large flat circular top that is held on with four screws.
- Do you have a kick starter?
- Are your brake disks solid or slotted?


There are other diffrerences, too, but they are not real obvious to a quick visual observation.

I was wondering if my calipers were from a different year. Didn't think my entire bike was!

I'll have a look at the VIN plate. It's pretty hidden right? Behind the handlebars?

- I don't know about the carbs. I'll have a look and see if I can tell...
- I do have a kick starter
- Brake pads are slotted

Sounds like a mix n match of a few different years... Got a picture of the brakes?

Looks like the later style brakes, didn't all the '79 models come with round brake pads?
 
That's actually good, the 1980 style calipers are far superior to the previous round pad calipers.
 
Well, that's good news. Just lame because their return policy is terrible ($15 re-stock fee) and means I have to re-order new ones.

Newbie mistake.
 
Those are the same brakes that I have on my 82ez. I'm sitting here rebuilding them as we speak.

Nate, are you riding with anybody up there? I know a group of riders up there. Get involved with local riders and they may be of great help also. Try backfiremoto.com for events...
