A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

First i just want to say thanks to everyone who has posted excellent info on this site.

Now for my strange problem: My 84 gs550es was running great but had a broken throtle cable just at the plastic where you turn to adjust for play. I install the new OEM cable and made all the right adjustment. The bike started up with no problems but i needed to adjust the throtle screw down a bit. She was idleing fine at around 12 to 13 hundred rpm so i drove it around the block, when i stoped in the drive way the idle started to rise and rise all the way to about 5k rpm and stays there. I tried to lower the throtle adjusting screw but it wont turn down any futher and is not even touching cable cam now, i even tried to push down on the spring loaded throtle cam but it is down all the way.

Can anyone help me figure this one out? Your thoughts on this one are very much appreciated!

it might not be cable related. have you done the usual carb clean and sync, and how old are the intake boot o-rings? any leaks there will let air in and rev the bike.

High idle

High idle

I haven't done a carb clean yet or replace the boots because the bike was running great before i replaced the throtle cable.

I did spray some wd-40 around all the boots while it was running to check for leaks and all was well.

Im thinking that some how i must have thrown the sync out on the carbs when i was installing the cable. I waiting for my manometer to arrive and will do a carb sync and see it that takes care of it.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Thought you guys may want to know:

All is fine now! carbs were way out of sync. Now the idle is staying at about 1,100 rpm.

Thanks for your help
