    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What clued me off thank God was it wouldn't crank fast enuf this morning. I was forced to take the stupid BLAZER to work grr..
a quick check revealed a dead battery, AND on a basic visual check revealed no water in it! About the same time, I also noticed no LOW BEAM. hmm.. a check of the charging at idle showed 14.5 volts and at 2 grand it skyrocketed to over 19 volts. The rec/reg ground wire at the plug is burned out and replacing the connector pin did nothing. same problemo. I even had redundunt grounds on it..
Looks liketime for a rect/reg!!
I found 4 or 5 in the parts bin, now time to graft one on and assess what other things blew out. Thank GOD I found it without riding more with no headlight?? and the electronic ignition is still good (for now whew)

ok my stator checks out . 70 volts AC between any of the 3 wires unloaded. around 2 ohms between any of the 3 leads.. and infinite to ground even on the millions scale.

problem is:

19 volts when I rev it up .
I have tried 5 ( READ IT FIVE) rectifier / regulators. ok i know one might be bad. but am i missing something?They are from parts bikes, junk bikes etc .bikes with blown up motors etc. All 3 phase rect/regs with 3 inputs, one ground wire and another to battery POSITIVE. nuttin can be simpler right?

NOT!!!
I have done voltage drop tests on both positive and negative sides to the battery and the regulator. .result= less than 1/4 volt.
am i going crazy here or what??? the battery was dry. I refilled it with BATTERY ACID and it will crank the bike till the cows come home.... I have run 10 gage jumper wires to the battery from the rect reg .
it is charging 19 VOLTS.

What R/Rs have you tried? Have you tried a newer one.
Search Posplayr's posts and read some of his work.
 
I have a box with about 6 or 7 regulators at home, too.

None of them work, either.

Just because you have a bunch of them doesn't mean that any of them work. :p

WELL my "box" of rectifier/regulators JUST WENT INTO THE TRASH!!!

I tried one more from another GS450L that I had 'rescued" and it had a NEW one!!
GUESS WHAT??





14.6 volts at 4 grand..

What a waste of a day.
I was off today.
I work Saturdays and Sundays
I work Tomorrow
I will be riding my bike to work.
that is all that matters.


ooh yeah, and the headlight from a 82 GS450L does not fit a 83 GS450L.
I'll be running on hi beam all the way lol.

looking at an aftermarket Halogen or maybe a HID kit??

Rode it to work, after I got there I checked the rect / reg and it was only slightly warm and charging volts were 14.5 @4 grand!!! DAYUM!!
Tonite I happened to find a nice H4 Headlight housing that "almost" fit my rim. I had to only re-drill the horizontal adjuster screw location.
Now I have LIGHTS.. if it would happen to drain the bat ( 35W/55W) then at least I can opt out for the lower wattage one . I think they are available at 25W/50W or something less..
boy it is nice being able to see at nite!!! :)
