A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey everybody, since i have loggged on last time i have done some changes to my exhaust system. About 2 months ago i cut the factory megaphones off right below the riders foot pegs on my 81 gs850 G. but what i got is window smashing sound which is what i was going for. I also got no backpressure and a really obnoxious backfiring coming only on decelration. Well live and learn i guess.

Since then i have cut the pipes off right under the front engine mounts and added a 2.5 ft. length of 1.5" exhaust tubing to each pipe, resulting in a 4 into 4 system. My main goal behind this setup is to add some internal baffels (harley type) to each pipe to increase backpressure to #1 better my low end torque and dimish the backfiring.

Any suggestions as to how long or with or without fiberglass packing to go with.

Thanks -Gs850bobber

Hi Mr. gs850bobber,

Just pack it until you get the sound you want.

After you get the baffling sorted out, you'll probably have to perform some plug chops to get your carb jetting dialed in. You're running lean now that you have straight pipes.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BasCliff

sorry sorta new to the whole exhaust thing. What do you mean by packing the exhaust

Once you have the exhaust packed with your baffles is what hes saying. By changing the exhaust to something other than original, youll have to change the intake side to meet the bikes new needs for air.If you have the room Id add no less than 12" baffles. But thats just me.
