    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What are the parts necessary to install an air shifter on my bike? I wouldn't need an adjustable electronic kill since this is just to have a little fun. Let's make it as simple as possible. I need a handlebar switch, an air valve & electic kill, an air manifold, a handlebar guage & air cylinder & tank & various fittings & lines. Now, can someone please walk me thru exactly what happens when I push the button to shift? The button sends the signal to the air kill which kills the ignition & unloads the tranny, then air is sent to the cylinder which moves the shift lever to change gears, when the button is released the ignition kicks back in & you are on your way.
Does this sound right? Have I missed anything? What are the proper names for all the parts & what type of store would I purchase them at?
 
Your almost correct.....
But first...There are two kinds of air shifters....air over air and electric over air....
Air over air uses a air valve for the button..when you press it, it throws the air valve which activates the air cylinder and the kill switch at almost the same time....the hose to the shift cylinder is longer than the kill, causing it to be slightly later than the kill...
Electric over air is basicly the same except button operates an electric soleniod to activate the shift and kill...
Both require an air tank....although some will work with paint ball gun CO2 cans...

I would be interested in the electric over air. I am familiar w/Schnitz but balk at paying over $300.00 U.S. for probably $100.00 worth of parts. I already have an air cylinder, a handlebar gauge, a micro switch & all fittings.Do you think the rest of the parts would be available at an industrial supply store?
 
I know you can get the electric air soleniod from Grainger. I saw one when I was thinkin' of putting an autoshift on my drag bike. I'm sure the air line, the kill switch and kill switch air cylinder are avalible also...you just need the brands and numbers.

I know on the MRE kit, on my bike, they made sure to take the original numbers off the parts.
